A Miss Pinch Pelisse II

Visiting Dress.

Visiting Dress.

Coleman’s Collector’s Book of Doll’s Clothes is an invaluable resource for authentic doll clothes patterns…fortunately Constance has access to this book through the Museum Library.  On page 158 she finds a Harper’s Bazaar illustration from 1871, which shows a doll wearing a “visiting dress”.  Look at that jacket! It so very similar to the “Hitty” book illustration – She is even wearing a little hat!

A section at the back of the book has numerous patterns copied from actual old doll clothes patterns. Constance thinks the Dolly’s Dressmaker 1862 pattern is just about the right shape and size….

The pattern is carefully traced onto tissue paper.

Clearly the pattern needs adjustment under the arms, and also at the front neckline…more Hitty Dressmaking coming soon.

  1. Oh, boy! Can’t wait to see how the outfit turns out. I know it will be fabulous!! Constance really has an eye for fashion.

  2. The seamstresses are SO much more patient than I ever could be. I know the ladies will look lovely once their frocks are finished.

  3. I think we missed these posts – Constance is so creative. That pattern is pretty – Sigh – Wish I could sew –
