Icelandic Jólasveinar 11
Min is thrilled to see a pile of laufabrauð (Icelandic Christmas leaf bread) left in exchange for her cookies. They are so pretty – Min likes them because they remind her of her bed!

The eleventh Yule Lad to come is Gáttaþefur, the door-sniffer who comes on December 22nd! He can smell a cookie from five kilometers away, and he is going to eat all Min’s cardamom cookies all by himself.

The cookies are gorgeous! How can she possibly eat them and make them disappear? Oh well, she will have her beautiful bed to remind her!
She might decide to hang them up as Christmas decorations!
Door sniffer! Some of these Lads have unusual talents. I love that top photo – it has many more than a 1000 words. Min is doing a great job of letting us know about this tradition.
I just searched for laufabrauð and now I wish there was an Icelandic bakery around the corner from my house. Looks delicious.
Talents indeed – and very descriptive names! Perhaps Min will share some laufabrauð with you if you ask her nicely.
Love the two photographs – Not sure Min will let the door -sniffer eat all her cardamon cookies. She may grab some back……..Min does not give up that easily. !!!
Or Min might spend a bit more time in the kitchen!
There is no way you can blame Gáttaþefur for merfing down all those cookies himself… they do look rather yummy!
They were…and with twelve hungry brothers, he has learned to munch first and apologise after.
