A Regency Afternoon Tea

Three Jane Austen Girls

Three Jane Austen Girls

Inspired by the recent flurry of Regency dress-sewing, three of the Quimper Hittys are having a Jane Austen Tea in their period-appropriate attire.

"Jane Bennett"

“Jane Bennett”

Zipporah admires Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. She is modest and retiring, but has captured the heart of Charles Bingley. Mrs Bennett says of Jane “I knew how it would be, I always said it must be so.  I was sure you could not be so beautiful for nothing!” Zipporah’s toilette was made by a Hitty friend in Ontario, and includes the gown, a modesty-preserving chemisette, shawl, reticule, and turban. .

Patience waits patiently

Patience waits patiently

Patience is fond of Fanny Price in Mansfield Park.  Fanny regards Edmund Bertram as “an example of every thing good and great, as possessing worth, which no one but herself could ever appreciate…”.  She fervently hopes he will get over his unaccountable infatuation with Maria Crawford.   Patience is wearing a lovely robe and Poke bonnet made by a Hitty friend in Missouri…

Constance and her "Emma Thompson Hat"

Constance and her “Emma Thompson Hat”

Constance sympathises with Anne Elliot from Persuasion.  She regrets her refusal of Frederick Wentworth, and claims the unenviable privilege of “loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone”.  Constance is elegant in the regency gown and fichu I recently made.

The girls enjoy their elegant tea party, and plan to spend many more hours reading their favourite Jane Austen novels. To see the posts about making Constance’s dress click here and here.

  1. What wonderful dresses your girls have! All the dresses are wonderful but I especially loved all the details of Zipporah’s outfit – the dress, the bonnet, the shawl, purse, jewelry and the cameo on the wall. I just love little details like that. Diane

  2. goodness….they are all so lovely! Your photos show them off to perfection and I do appreciate your
oh so literate commentary! A most enjoyable event for all of your followers!!

  3. Dresses and bonnets are simple and very pretty. There is always beauty in simplicity. The Quimper girls sure love their new outfits.
