Another Exciting Museum

Tansy’s host is currently working at the Royal Alberta Museum daily, and she figured it was time Tansy discovered about more about the museum and Alberta. It was a good afternoon to visit – especially since the weather took a turn for the frigid and was -38 plus windchill.

They were both very impressed by the dioramas in the Wildlife section – hopefully some of them will be taken to the new museum when it is built downtown.

Tansy had a lovely time exploring the entire natural history area  getting an upclose look at a RAM Ram’s horn…

Then they visited the conservation area behind the scenes, where Tansy’s host has been working on the preservation of early film and radio broadcasting equipment.  Some of these were built out of salvaged old army equipment, and Tansy found it fascinating looking at the tubes, wires, and knobs, and learning about the origins of radio, from the History buffs.  There have been many conversations about Marconi, even a reference to Nikolai Tesla or two.

Tansy stepped right up to help the conservator by inspecting a radio jukebox.  This machine would have been used overnight, running 100 songs without the need of a DJ.  What Tansy liked most about this equipment was the really nice details, like the lights that look more like gems!  Museums are filled with wonderful things!

  1. Not only will Tansy return home a world traveler but she will also be incredibly well informed. My wooden girls have certainly enjoyed her adventures and this museum visit has been a real highlight. The visionary scientist Tesla has long been of fascination to the humans in this house. ( the Hittys are less interested in him)

  2. Wow – Tansy is really getting around and having a lot of fun. She is becoming quite the seasoned traveller with these long trips first to Haida Gwaii and now to eastern Canada (east of the rockies = eastern, right?).
