Hanky Dress for Spring

Pretty Blue Hanky

Pretty Blue Hanky

As the recipients of  a Box of Treasure, which arrived by post last year, the Quimper Hittys have been fairly patient, knowing that sometimes needle magic takes time!  Rose is holding one of the prettiest Hankies in the Box of Treasure

But after a few snips and stitches, she is holding a pretty blue dress…

Hattie Helps

Hattie Helps

Hattie has a dress made of the same pattern, with the sleeves made from one of the box of treasure hankies, and the rest of the dress is a Hanky from my own stash.

I am sorry to say I can’t remember where I got the pattern from, but it is very versatile, and can be made shorter for a little girl’s party dress, or longer for an older girl.  The pattern has the front and back yoke cut in one piece, and each of the sides and sleeves cut in another single piece.  Very handy if you are using a hanky , as there will be no hems to stitch (though you have to make sure you account for this when you cut up the hanky).

We’ve put a button at the top left of the back bodice, and worked three thread loops …  one at the back right to close it at the neck, and two more thread loops at the side seams just above the waist, to carry the ribbon waist tie.  The centre back of the skirt is left open, partly so the whole hanky is visible, but also so the dress can fit a hitty of any degree of stoutness.

  1. goodness these are such pretty frocks. I love how you did the photos. the one of Hatte tying the sash for Rose is just precious!! I believe I am now inspired to make a frock from something in my little hankie stash. Thanks!!

  2. Rose looks as if she might be getting set to be a bridesmaid. I wonder if there is some romance at the QHs that we dont yet know of.
Both are very nice dresses – the QHs are very well dressed Hittys!
