Opal and Agathe Put up apples

Washed

Washed

The Garden Friends get ready to process apples from the back yard tree…

Sliced

Sliced

We wash, core, peel and slice the apples, but skip the ascorbic acid/lemon juice step. We find the colour does not change that much, and affects the taste not at all….

Peering down the vent

Peering down the vent

The girls can’t help themselves, and get a blast of damp, warm, appley air while peering down the vent…

Stacks of trays

Stacks of trays

Now they wait for four hours…

Oh, Yum!

Oh, Yum!

…and finally get to the tasting part!

  1. The Quimper Hittys must be the healthiest Hittys around, with all the fresh fruits to harvest and process for winter consumption!

    • We like to eat them – just as they are, or wrapped around an almond for a snack…if we freeze them, they break up into tiny chips which can be added to porridge or muffins, there are all kind of delicious ways to eat dried apples!
