The Tales of Hoffmann
Constance really enjoyed going to the MET’s Live in HD presentation of the Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach. The story is a bizzare fictional account of the several great (but unsuccessful) love affairs of the real poet E. T. A.Hoffman who died in 1822. One of his Operatic inamoratas was a mechanical doll called Olympia. Constance approves in principle, after all she knows several people who feel very fond of dolls, even without wearing magic glasses! She also feels that to be beloved by a cutie like Vittorio Grigolo would be no hardship.
Among other things, the real Hoffman wrote fantastic and macabre fiction. He is the author of the story upon which the Nutcracker Ballet is based!
