Mungo and the Quimper Hitty human had a special outing to Centennial Square in Victoria last Saturday, where crowds of people gathered to celebrate  Tartan Day !!  Mungo was in his element!

The Grand Marshall of the Victoria Highland Games, was bemused by Mungo.  He told us all about the upcoming Highland Games:  click here to find out about the 2015 events. Mungo tells me he now wants a red serge jacket…with gold braid, and a fancy bonnet. I better get sewing…

The Victoria Weaver’s Guild had a table set up and experts available to help if you wanted to try weaving your own piece of tartan…Mungo thinks this would make a perfect Mungo-blanket…

This guy was one of three sportsmen who were keen to describe the Heavy Events, including putting the stone, weight for distance, weight for height, throwing the hammer, and the fabled caber toss.

Mungo was happy to meet a whole group of people who actually share his passion for the pipes. The Vancouver Island Caledonia Pipe Band was delighted to pose with him and commiserated about the difficulty in finding a place to practice. Click here for a link to their website.

Mungo becomes a little unfocused when he dreams about tartan!

  1. Oh what fun!!!! I made kilts for my husband and our son for our son’s wedding. It was a delight to have almost all the menfolk in tartans! Our son wears his kilt at every opportunity, and looks absolutely smashing in it! Ahhhh, men in kilts…. how lovely!

  2. Mungo is very sociable among the right set – must have been a relief to get out of the house and away from a dozen plus sisters and female cousins and their needles.
Looks as if men in kilts are a friendly lot and not even one wee dram in sight!

  3. Always enjoy a Mungo outing and my goodness this was a great one!! We have visited Highland games in Colorado. Amazing feats of strength and agility…and of course…Men in Kilts!!

    • Luckily my weaver-friend mentioned the weaving part of the event! There were many men in kilts and a fair few bonny lassies too, dancing around and about crossed swords! What fun!
