Linen Cloth Clothes
A few weeks ago, a friend gave me six small linen cloths, each 30 cm/ 12 inches square, with a little butterfly in the corner and dainty lace all round the edges… They are a little heavy, though the right size for handkerchiefs, and a little small for table napkins, unless they are for tea parties, where elegant ladies dab their lips for fear of crumbs.
.
.
…one cloth seems to contain a lot of potential when sewing for very small individuals. The Quimper Hitty human was able to eke out a pair of bloomers; pantalettes and petticoat made with the pattern taken from the actual Hitty doll’s clothes; and a Möbius Pinafore. There were a few scraps, which will be carefully hoarded.
.
.
Patience likes the pinafore but she declined to model the other garments as she is not much of an exhibitionist. Making this pinafore was fiddly especially cutting out the pattern on the corner without cutting the lace – then the lace had to be unpicked far enough up the edges to go round the rest of the pinafore. The tatty bits of lace are kind of endearing, so they won’t be “fixed”. Five more cloths – hmmm.

OMG!!! When we think we’ve seen your best, you just roll out a better one!!!!!! This is amazing Kjerstin! One bit of advice….do not ever let me close to that cupboard…..fingers can be “inquisitive”! Congrats on these superb linens!!! Love ALL of them. Thanks for letting us share.
I would love it if you came that close to the Hitty Cupboard! If I lost any linens through inquisitive fingers, I could always replace them!
How completely enchanting!!!! The fine linens are utterly exquisite, and made me catch my breath with delight!
Although I was a bit nervous about doing the linen squares justice, the clothing turned out really well, I thought.
Your craftsmanship is exquisite and you have brought the lovely old hanky to life again, which is a blessing!
Your girls have the nicest underwear we’ve ever seen. I shall blame you for the fact that my Hittys refuse to wear our “second rate” stuff. (It won’t be correct, or even fair, but I can’t think of any other reason for their habits.)
Those are quite spectacular! I would be tempted to just frame the set as art.
I am very sorry to be such a bad influence on your Hittys. Framed Art Linen might work for the humans, but the Hittys might then be tempted to engage in a little smash and grabbing!
Haha! The naughty things!
Agreed with all of the above….I’m calling you, Kjerstin, Hitty Pattern Design Engineer eXtraordinaire (Hitty Pa-DEX). Thanks for showing us your amazing creations once again, totally cool.
Oh goodness *blush* , I do have textile recycling on the brain, and am always glad when my ideas work out. I hope others may be inspired to try!
oh my goodness, exquisite! just love the pinafore. I’m sure there are other Hittys clamoring for lacy linens.
Thanks – the Pinafore turned out really well! It is always nice when that happens!
Gorgeous!
Thank you!!
well I am now inspired! I have some linen napkins similar to these (without the lace trim) and now the girls and I shall try to create something with them.. Altho I know for a fact they will not be as stunning as your creations. Such creativity and workmanship.
Hankies are easier to sew, but these turned out well! I was thinking of making bedding with some of the other cloths.
A triumph of fashion and frugality! What fibrous-fun!
The best kind of fun!
You are amazing, what lovely work and a beautiful hanky turned into some beautiful undergarments and apron.
It was fun trying to eke as much out of the one cloth as possible. I think bedsheets are the destiny for the next one!
