Quebrada Vieja

Neighbourhood Street

Neighbourhood Street

Bogota is a huge city of over seven million people…We were very glad that the place we have been staying is in a hilly neighbourhood that is peaceful and quiet, and away from the chaos of the city (except for the recurring Friday night wild all-night party).

Looking Down

Luckily our apartment is quite close to a lovely little creek, the banks of which have been stabilized and the sides made into a park.

Path

Path

The path down into the gully has steps and railings in useful places, and is kept clean and swept, and a lot of people use the paths to cross over to the other side of the creek, or else follow the paths down the hill to the commercial areas and busses etc.

A little rest

A little rest

We have walked through this park several times on the way to and from other places, but today we took a little trip there just to enjoy it for itself.

The park is well kept, with people sweeping the paths, kids using the little play area, and people walking. Lots of different trees and flowers exist here, but I don’t know enough about the botany to know which are native plants and which introduced.  I do know this bottlebrush flower is everywhere you look in Bogota…

…and we loved the glorious pink flowers on vines that twist and weave their way through other plants.

Constance and Gracia have really enjoyed their trip to Colombia.  This afternoon we’ll get on our plane, and return to a Canadian Winter…full of memories of friendly people, lovely places, and unpredictable weather. Thanks so much to all the people who looked after us on our trip!

  1. I especially loved the last photo with the girls contemplating their visit and nature. What a wonderful visit you all have had. Safe journey home!

  2. Dear Constance and Gracia, thank you for sharing these moments with us! Do take it all in…we have a white ground cover here and not one single leaf left on trees…enjoy every minute of this beautiful trip…your bones may squeak when you get home 😁
