Evening Stroll with Mary Ann

Lobelia and Viola

Lobelia and Viola

Mary Ann works hard and worries about things . She feels responsible for keeping the Hitty Cupboard tidy and its inhabitants out of mischief. It can be hard to get her to take a break from the toils of the cupboard, but yesterday, after the week’s work was done, she and I went for an evening stroll.

We admired the flowers blooming all over the neighbourhood, both the fancy ones…

We discovered some flowers that are good to eat in salad…

…and some that are good to drink in tea.

We love looking at the amazing variety of flowers with their endless shapes, colours and sizes, and marvel at the myriad ways they can make us feel happy.

At the top of the hill at the end of our stroll, we were filled with a different kind of joy. We know that individual flowers are still there, and the work and worries, but they recede for a while in the immensity of the evening sunlight, the sea and the distant mountains.
