Enough Rosemary

Six Dalahäster were getting tired of eating rosemary…

Hattie had a suggestion, and handed Amelia an apron…

The recipe calls for a lot of powdered sugar, so Hattie set about pounding some.

Amelia went for the more modern equipment.

When the cookies are baked, they are rolled in powdered sugar – once while hot, and a second time when cool.

Hide them!

These are extremely addictive cookies and it is a good plan to hide them if you want them to last until Christmas!

Hattie did the washing-up…

Polvorones recipe:

1 cup soft unsalted butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, two cups white flour, one cup ground walnuts (we prefer pecans!).

Mix everything together.  For Human-sized cookies, roll into tablespoon-sized balls.

Bake in a slow oven (ca. 325 degrees F) for about 20 – 25 minutes.

Roll in powdered sugar while hot.  Cool on wire racks, then roll them in powdered sugar again.

Hide them!

These are also called ‘Mexican Wedding Cakes” but in that case do not seem so Christmassy.

  1. WONDERFUL post! What an impressive collection of kitchen tools the Hitties have acquired. They entertain us so much, with such warmth, and feed us treats, encouraging us to make them ourselves. Thank you so much, every day.

  2. All of your miniatures with Hattie and Amelia look so life like that it’s hard to remember they aren’t real. Oh My…did I just say that???? Of course, they are honest to goodness true life-forms.

  3. I enjoy escaping my humdrum reality, to slip into the world of your Hittys.

I follow an Italian blog, the fellow makes his characters from eggshells, and they always seem to have an interesting time, also. Luckily, Google translates the Italian (more or less), so I can figure out what’s happening. https://pupazzovi.wordpress.com/

  4. yes I have made these and can testify that they are quite addictive…pair the with a batch of good fudge and …..sugar overload!! Those Dalahasters would be galloping about the house! Always such fun to see the girls in action!

    • That would be a sight to see – and I wonder if the sound of Dalahäster hooves clippetty-clopping all night is what has been waking me up lately! Maybe we’d better stick to feeding them rosemary twigs!
